Power Packs for Kids helps energize students

May 8, 2024 - Summer’s on the horizon. That means kids are spending these last weeks in the classroom dreaming about everything on their fun to-do list for the next three months. All of those activities take energy, and once again Sunflower’s employees at the Hays office stepped up to provide that energy for families facing food insecurity this summer.

The Hays Employee Activity Committee (EAC) held the second Power Packs for Kids campaign raising $2,210 to purchase food items easily manageable for young students, such as soup, macaroni and cheese, cereal, and granola bars. On May 8, Sunflower staff gathered to distribute the purchased items into 107 Power Packs.

“Being part of Power Packs for Kids has been a great way to serve the community,” said Joel Iman, Sunflower transmission geotechnician II and EAC member. “I’m thankful we as business colleagues have been able to rally around a good cause to help families.”

The Power Packs were then delivered by the Hays EAC to all seven elementary schools in Hays based on the needs of their students.

“Lincoln Elementary is so lucky to have such an awesome community support system for our students,” said Kerri Lacy, Lincoln Elementary School principal. “The food bags donated and delivered from Sunflower will be a great help to our families as they start their summer.“
