With summer just around the corner and students eagerly counting down the days until school lets out, Sunflower’s employees in Hays are making sure local kids have the energy they need to enjoy their summer.
For the third consecutive year, the Hays Employee Activity Committee (EAC) organized its Power Packs for Kids campaign, raising $2,277 to purchase kid-friendly, shelf-stable food items such as cereal, granola bars, soup, and macaroni and cheese. On May 8, Sunflower staff came together to assemble 87 Power Packs filled with nutritious snacks and meals designed to help meet the needs of students experiencing food insecurity over the summer. Nearly 80 hygiene items were donated as well.
“Being part of Power Packs for Kids is always a rewarding experience,” said Charlotte Schulte, regulatory and government affairs director and EAC member. “It’s incredible to see how our team comes together to support local families and make a real difference.”
The Power Packs were distributed to six elementary and middle schools in Hays, with quantities tailored to each school’s student needs. Sunflower is proud to live out the cooperative principles, especially Concern for Community, through initiatives like this, supporting the well-being of the communities we serve.
